Ghana (MNN) — In April, we covered the story of the liberation of 55 trokosi slaves and the salvation of their head priest through Every Child Ministries. Since then, Sharon Aldrich of ECM says they’re helping to rehabilitate seven of the women through sewing lessons and Bible studies. “We work with them to help them find a more viable way of making a living. This involved training them to develop a home business and even possibly get a micro-credit loan.” Aldrich says transitioning is slow: “It’s difficult for these women to go back into the community and feel a part of everyone, because they have been set apart for something that they know is wrong.” But those who made decisions for Christ continually grow in their faith. And the priest? “There is a local Christian man who is going to him every week and having prayer and Bible study with him. And we pray for him.” Pray for ECM as they free more slaves from other shrines. Continue to pray for these women and the priest.

A combination of student teaching for Kaitlin, a heavy semester load for Liesel, and my first-year of teaching 8th grade has kept the band busy the past few months. This is the story of my town and hundreds of other little towns like it. We have 12 churches and only 5000 people. And there are still people falling through the cracks. We don’t have to live in a city slum or a refugee camp or a jungle village to see desperate need for Jesus. All we have to do is look into the eyes of the people in our communities. And after we see them, we must enter into their worlds, becoming their friends. Like Jesus did.
